[00:06.72]has opened in Seoul, South Korea.
[00:11.48]The event was celebrated in a ceremony with a fireworks display
[00:18.00]that lit up the building and the sky.
[00:23.16]The 123-story glass and steel structure is South Korea's tallest building.
[00:32.24]It rises 555 meters above the Seoul skyline.
[00:40.88]The tower features the world's highest floor made of glass.
[00:46.96]From this observation area, visitors can look straight down
[00:52.40]to the busy traffic about one-half kilometer below.
[00:58.96]The building also has the highest swimming pool in the world,
[01:04.20]as well as the world's fastest elevator.
[01:09.68]The elevator can reportedly take passengers
[01:13.59]to the top of the building in just one minute.
[01:18.32]The Lotte World Tower houses offices, personal residences and a seven-star hotel.
[01:29.00]The top 10 floors are used for public events and entertainment,
[01:35.08]including the observation deck and a rooftop restaurant.
[01:40.92]Attached is a large complex with a shopping mall,
[01:45.88]aquarium, movie theater, music hall and amusement park.
[01:53.92]The launch came during a troubled time for the Lotte Group,
[01:59.12]which is known for its international chain of supermarkets.
[02:05.00]The group's chairman and some of his family members
[02:09.08]recently went on trial for fraud and other charges.
[02:15.80]Lotte has also faced problems in China,
[02:20.64]where the government reportedly retaliated against it
[02:25.44]for providing land in South Korea for the U.S.-built THAAD anti-missile system.
[02:34.24]The building was designed by American architecture company
[02:39.40]Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF).
[02:44.64]It cost about $3.6 billion to build.
[02:50.56]The company said the design combines "a modern aesthetic
[02:56.40]with forms inspired by the historic Korean arts
[03:01.08]of ceramics, porcelain and calligraphy."
[03:06.02]KPF also designed the building that used to be South Korea's tallest building
[03:13.40]- Northeast Asia Trade Tower ¨C which opened in the city of Incheon in 2014.
