this is VOA news. I'm Joe Ramsey. The United States, the UN and other world powers on Tuesday condemned an Israeli airstrike that mistakenly killed 78 workers in Gaza. Reuters correspondent Alex Cohen reports. Video obtained by Reuters showed a large hole in the roof of a four-wheel drive vehicle belonging to the World Central Kitchen, a charity founded by celebrity chef Jose Andres. Paramedics were seen moving bodies into a hospital and displaying the passports of three of those killed. US National Security Council coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby said the White House was outraged by the attack.

Israel's military expressed sincere sorrow over the incident. Reuters correspondent Alex Cohen. United Nations spokesperson Stefan Duharak said on Tuesday, "The killing of seven people working for food charity World Central Kitchen in Gaza is, quote, 'the inevitable result of the way this war is currently being conducted.' We affirm yet again the need for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire."

The UN has warned of aluming famine in Gaza and complained of obstacles to getting aid in and distributing it. NATO foreign ministers meet on Wednesday to discuss how to put military support for Ukraine on a long-term footing, including a proposal for a 100 billion euro or 107 billion dollar five-year fund and a plan seen as a way to Trump-proof aid for Kiev. The proposals by NATO Secretary General Ian Staltenberg would give the western alliance a more direct role in coordinating the supply of arms, ammunition and equipment to Ukraine as it fights Russia's invasion. Diplomats say the plans will be discussed during a two-day meeting in Brussels.
